Every driving test centre on this site has one or more practice routes, and every route has two links. Here’s what they do and when to use each one.
“From test centre”
This link starts and ends the loop at the actual test centre. It’s the most faithful version of the route — if you’re practising with an instructor and starting your lesson from the test centre itself, this is the one to use.
“From my location”
This link starts from wherever you currently are. Rather than driving a direct line from your location to the first turn of the loop (which can accidentally cut through the middle of the route if you live nearby), it takes you to the test centre first, then runs the same loop from there. That means the navigation is one continuous journey, at the small cost that the very first leg — from your home to the test centre — obviously isn’t part of the real test route.
What you’ll see
Tap a link and Google Maps (or Apple Maps, if that’s your default) opens with the full route already plotted, ready for turn-by-turn navigation. You can start driving immediately, or review the route on the map first.
A few practical notes
- Drive safely first. Set up navigation before you start moving, not while driving.
- Routes are a guide, not a script. Road layouts change, and your actual test route is chosen by your examiner on the day — see why these aren’t official DVSA routes for more on that.
- Google’s waypoint limit means a route with a lot of turns is simplified to its key points rather than every single instruction — the overall shape and roads driven stay faithful, even if a very minor turn isn’t individually plotted.
